Snowboarding skill isn't as easily attainable as it looks. It takes years of practice and the right equipment. Still snowboarding has gained popularity. Cheap snowboards and discount snowboards are available both on and off season. Many snowboard manufacturers engineer their boards for special slope conditions. Snowboard bindings and snowboard boots are manufactured to certain specification for the sport as well.

Snowboard magazines cover the sport and follow snowboarding contests and professional riders. In Europe, many face the most expensive ski and snowboard season in a decade whereas in the U.S. advanced discount packages abound.

Snowboard contests are held at many of the slopes. There are five major types of contests: rail jam, slope-style, free ride, half-pipe, quarter-pipe and boarder cross. The U.S. Snowboarding Revolution Tour has over 150 athletes prequalified for the tour, which will feature half-pipe, snowboard cross and slope-style events at four stops across the nation.

Burton snowboards sponsor The Burton AM Tour. It takes place in 12 European countries on 12 different slopes. It is one of Europe's biggest amateur freestyle snowboarding contest series.

The Burton Global Open Series is sponsored by Burton Snowboards. It kicks off on ski lodges in New Zealand this summer. All six Burton Global Open Series events offer riders the chance to earn points towards a male and female championship title, each worth $100,000.

There are also many other smaller division competitions taking place at snowboarding terrain parks across the nation. A large amount of prizes and promotional gear is awarded at these contests and is something you don't want to miss. Awesome video clips and breaking news is available at many of the snowboarding websites and sports achieves from these events.

Terrain parks and backcountry snowboarding are popular at ski lodges everywhere. Special areas are marked "Terrain Park" are conspicuously set aside for snowboarders where they can dry run their moves. A multitude of great ramps and slope styles allow for tricks and stunts in the air. Special machinery grooms half-pipes and quarter-pipes to perfection. These parks contain many rails and jibs as well.

Open terrain freestylers enjoy the fresh powder experience when it presents itself, a rarity in the East. For the freestyler, freestyle boards are longer and wider with a more directional shape is the preferred choice.
