In today's world, it is not feasible to stay out of touch. There are appointments to keep and calls to make. There are emails that cannot go unanswered. You have to be able to edit and send documents while being on the go.

You need something that is portable, but allows you to keep track of your schedule and important events. New phones have many of these capabilities, but you may need something more for your particular lifestyle. You need to check out a pocket PC. It's sleek, has handy gadgets and software programs.

The pocket PC, or pocket personal computer, was an evolution in the making. It started out as a basic device about the size of a calculator and had the most basic of functions. Later models added the feature of being able to see one line of text, yet have since evolved into personal hand held assistants that can email, browse the internet, organize your daily events and files and even play multimedia games.

The pocket PC is by a more general term also referred to as a PDA or Personal Digital Assistant. The previous versions ran on Windows Mobile 5, but have since upgraded to Windows Mobile 6. Windows Mobile 5 was a great relief to PDA owners.

When the version 6 came with even more advanced functionality, that e.g enabled the handheld device to work as a phone, also known as Smartphone. On top of that it added more disk space. The PDA was working like a full fledged mini-PC. And to eliminate the risk of losing data when the battery ran dead, Windows Mobile 5 started to use a flash memory to store information.

The conventional pocket PC is already getting obsolete and the new upcomer, Windows mobile Smartphone is getting the mainstream's attention. This is the new favorite by both companies and civilian gadget users. It's basically a phone with PC Software and can be used just like a regular PC but in a very portable way of course.

The pocket PC is a great tool to have if you find yourself away from your home computer or office. It is an excellent way to stay in touch. There are some great models on the market today, such as the PalmOs, iPhone, Blackberry and many of the Hewlett Packard brands of smart phones.

There are of course different manufacturers and if you want to know what brands are on the market, then PalmOs, Blackberry and Hewlett Packard models all make great Smartphones, just to name a few.
