Cooking in a crockpot is one way to make family meals easier. With a little ingenuity and creativity you can prepare meals that will save you time as well as offer nutritious value. Just plug it in when you leave for work and it's ready by the time you are home.

One classic meal that is easy to prepare is the American pot roast. It is a balanced diet of roast, potatoes, onions and carrots slowly cooked to preserve the nutrition and the delicious taste. To cook it, put the clean potatoes, onions, and carrots at the base of the pot, fill half of the pot with water, put the roast on top and plug it to cook.

You can change it up somewhat by pouring cream of mushroom soup on top to create sumptuous gravy. In case some of it is left, use it to make healthy sandwiches or a hearty stew the next day.

Another great crockpot meal is shredded chicken fajitas. Cut up some chicken breasts, tomatoes, peppers and onions and sprinkle with taco seasoning. Slow cook all day and serve with flour tortillas and cheese. This can also be served over lettuce for a great taco salad.

This meal is great for leftovers; especially when served over rice or in a salad.

Crockpot cooking is the best way to cook beans and ham hocks. You could even do an entire boneless ham. To make a well-balanced meal, add potatoes and carrots. Then serve with cornbread or corn muffins.

Chili prepared in a crockpot is the best! Brown your beef, pork, turkey or chicken add beans, tomatoes, peppers and onions and chili seasoning to taste. The aroma when you get home will really be out of this world.

A crockpot makes your meal planning and preparation easy and nutritious. All you need to do is put the ingredients in the pot and plug it in when you leave for work. This is one of the easiest ways to make sure that your family has healthy nutritious meals every night.
