These days, the importance of money is at an all time high. The economic crisis is readily looming just over the horizon if it hasn't already arrived yet. So it's very important that we are prepared for anything that it might bring along with it. And teaching our kids to appreciate money is one way to make the financial crisis a good family bonding experience.

You can suggest different activities that will help your kid know the value of money. For example, you can tell them to save a portion of their allowance for something big that they might want to buy in the future, like a new video game or a new bike. You have to show them how saving some money today can greatly make a difference in their future. You can even try to convince them to start a college fund already.

Keeping a budget for the household is important. Not only does it give you insight on what you might spend on in the future, it also helps you save up for more bigger things that your family might need. Perhaps you are thinking of spending the holidays in Disney Land, or buying a car. A budget will help you keep track of your savings and tell you exactly how near you are to achieving your dream.

You should also try to teach your kids about keeping a sound budget. This allows them to foresee things in the future that they might need some money for. It's always best to point out at an early age that sometimes there are things in life that we can't predict so it's always good to prepare for anything.

Another great way is to make use of their talents. You can suggest a few things that they can do earn a little bit of cash. Say let them do the lawn and then pay them something in return for their hard work. You can also let them join craft shows and showcase the products of their hobbies, if they have any. You are never too old or too young to join and you just might be surprised at how your kid does.

These are just a few ideas that can help you out in teaching your children about how money is a vital part of our lives. However, we must always remember that we are their parents and that whatever we teach our children today will stay with them forever.
