A favorite destination for many people from all over the world is Orlando, Florida, with its many theme parks, it has rapidly become a must-do place to visit but there is much more to Orlando than this. Orlando also has markets, shows, art galleries, exhibitions, beautiful lakes and parks, all easily available for the visitor who wants something a little different. Although Orlando wasn't always this full of attractions, it has been pulling in visitors for many years and its popularity does not seem to be diminishing.
It is a warm and welcoming place that enjoys looking after people with its many shopping malls, restaurants, clubs and bars. Of course this article can only brush the surface of what you can see and do on an Orlando vacation but there is so much more than just theme parks that it would be a shame not to mention them.
If you are an animal lover that you must not miss the Central Florida Zoological Park in Sanford which has been open to the public since 1975 and house a collection of over 400 hundred animals. It is actually a privately owned charitable group dedicated to the protection of exotic animals plus species that are native to Florida but also offers informative and child-friendly classes and events.
You may have heard of the name Tiffany's but did you know that it was way back in 1942 that the Morse Museum in Winter Park that started displaying the collections of Louis Tiffany. The collection is the most comprehensive anywhere with Tiffany jewelry, art glass, ornaments, pottery, paintings and leaded glass.
If you are looking for a variety of night life then it is in abundance in Orlando with two popular places being Universal's Citywalk and Disney's Pleasure Island, both of which are open until very late and cater mainly for adults with a range of street entertainment, bars, restaurants and clubs. Whilst it may on the surface appear to be a town designed for the entertainment of children that could not be farther from the truth with adults equally well looked after.
Another great place to visit about twenty minutes drive from Orlando Airport is The Orlando Science Center, originating in 1955, it is a huge complex with over two hundred thousand square feet of exhibition space spanning ten halls. An alternative to this would be the International Trolley and Train Museum which can be found along International Drive and has one of the nation's largest operating indoor G gauge layouts in a space of over four thousand square feet.
If you have seen the Titanic-ship of Dreams film then you will enjoy the exhibition along International Drive that tells the story using large sets and depictions from the ship as a background, to the often eerie tale. Of course if you prefer something more relaxing then you should visit Lake Eola Park, situated in the heart of downtown, is the city's main attraction with 43 acres of beautiful sidewalks and a boating lake.
Of course how could you possibly visit Orlando and not go to at least one theme park and for those of you who are unsure; Disney has four main theme parks, not including the water parks, and Universal has it's own versions but the beautiful Seaworld should also not be forgotten either. If you have never visited Orlando before, you must try it at least once and it doesn't really matter when you go if you want fairly good weather but holiday seasons do get busy, especially Christmas; well, who wouldn't want to spend Christmas with Mickey.
