Pastors and ministers need options to increase their bottom line income. One way is to offer your services as an officiant; performing the wedding ceremony. Many of our pastors and ministers study for years just like any other profession. They may have college loans, and then a term of study for their chosen religious field. You would think with all this education, they would be paid more. Not true. People in the ministry field need to supplement their income and performing weddings for additional income is one way you, as a minister or pastor, can achieve this. Here are some tips to start you on the journey of wedding income:

Online wedding sites in your vicinity offer a start. Just go to Google and type in your city and "wedding guides." Larger cities, will usually have multiple sites. Most wedding guide sites offer two choices, you can advertise, which will cost you anywhere from $100 to $250 to show your ad on their home page. You do not need a website to do this.

Consider getting a free listing. If you follow this option you will have to have website of your own where you list your degrees, experience and services. You will be required to give a reciprocal listing on your site for the wedding guide. This is a worthwhile exchange.

Local wedding coordinators are also a good source of business. You can usually find them online or in the yellowbook. These coordinators must have good wedding ministers on hand. You have the training and skills that are valuable to them and their clients. After all, the minister is a necessary part of the wedding.

What should you charge as a fee? Don't undersell yourself. You have the training and experience needed to design ceremonies and personalize wedding vows. So set a fair wedding fee that includes your time, mileage, and experience. Charge extra for rehearsals. Tips are also acceptable, but should not be expected if you have a set fee. Other wedding vendors also receive gratuities.

There are also websites that include many wedding officiants. Some cities have sites where several ministers work together cooperatively. Look into joining one of these organizations. This will enable you to be listed as a wedding officiant on their site at a reasonable cost. This will require a resume that lists your experience, education, and fees. Look at several of these sites before joining. It may also give you a good idea of what other ministers in your area are charging.

One of the quickest and easiest ways to get started performing weddings locally and begin earning extra income is to take a shortcut. Purchase a wedding ministry training course or business course. This will give you some of the ins and outs of the wedding ministry. A good course will also give you many of the tools you will need to perform beautiful wedding ceremonies. It should also provide you with the tools you need to work with couples and other wedding professionals. There is a cost involved, but if it gets you started making money sooner than later, it is worth the price. Be careful. Some sites charge a lot for a course that will teach you what you already know if you are already licensed. Prices vary from $100 to $2,000. So know what you need and what you are getting. If you earn $200 for a wedding ceremony then you could either make your money back in the first wedding, or it could take you 10 weddings to earn your investment back.

These practical steps you can have you earning a part time income between $5,000 and $10,000 each year. You deserve to earn a good living for yourself and your family. There is nothing wrong with taking initiative. You are also provided a needed service for others and meeting a lot of people who could even become members of your own congregation.
