Yorkshire Terriers are adorable dogs, and not only do they make great family pets but they are also excellent little watchdogs. They are constantly alert and on guard and will notify you through the night if there are any noises or disturbances outside your home.

These Yorkies will generally live up to fifteen years if properly taken care of, and you just want to make sure that you have a good, reputable veterinarian before you even bring the dog home, so that you are completely prepared. You also want to make sure that you consult with the veterinarian in order to make sure you are as educated as possible and that you will therefore be able to provide the best possible care to your dog. This is very important if you want your dog to live the longest and healthiest life possible.

The miniature Yorkshire Terrier is also known as the teacup Yorkshire Terrier and actually only grows to be about three pounds when fully grown. They are adorable dogs, but do not be fooled by their small stature because they really are great watchdogs. Yorkies are a young breed that was developed in North England and which quickly became a popular pet, especially for women because they could fit the dogs in their purses.

There are a few differences between these two Yorkshire Terrier types, and for one the coat on the miniature Yorkshire Terrier is much different than that on the standard Yorkie. It tends to have the same thickness but does not grow as long.

Both types are absolutely adorable, and although they definitely do look almost identical, there are a few differences that you can use to tell the two apart. The coat on the miniature Yorkshire Terriers tends to be shorter and lighter colored for one, and also of course the size difference.

The bottom line is that although the miniature Yorkshire Terrier is basically just the same dog but a miniaturized version, there are still some differences that you are going to want to be aware of. The different colors of the Yorkies are particularly important to be aware of, and although you are most likely used to see the Yorkie in steel blue and tan you can also find them in golden brown and off white colors as well.

Most importantly is the fact that a show quality, or AKC Yorkshire Terrier, must still meet exacting standards. So this needs to be taken into account if you plan on showing your Yorkie in any competitions.

Remember that before you purchase a Yorkshire Terrier of any sort, you want to make sure that you are aware of all the requirements that are called for here. You are going to need to get the dog the right vaccinations, and become educated on their medical history and breed origin. Ask the breeders any questions that you may have, as any good breeder will be more than willing to provide you with all of the information you are looking for.
