There are no legal or scientific definitions for such terms as; super premium, premium, natural and quality but these are terms used by the commercial cat food companies. The source of the ingredients are vital. Cats are carnivores and their diet should be meat-based.

Is your cat overweight and nothing you've tried has yeilded the results you wanted?

It's probably safe to say that your cat is eating too much of the wrong foods and leads a sedentary life-style. Your cat needs exercise like - fetching a ball that you throw, climbing a tree or playing with toys. Do you think that cats need carbohydrate-laden snacks? Just like humans, this will cause obesity in your cat. Obesity in your cat is a sign of a serious problem. In order to keep him/her around, a change in your cat's diet is necessary to avoid costly and serious illnesses.

What should you change your cat's diet too?

We should be practicle regarding what's good for our cats by considering their origin and their natural diet. Did you know that our domestic cats are descendents of the wild cats that roam the African deserts? They are well suited to thrive in a desert environment and they should eat what their predessors eat.

There is not much water in a desert. Therefore, cats naturally have a low thirst drive. Additionally, cats are carnivores but not just carnivores but rather obligate carnivores - meaning that they have to eat meat. They derive their needed nutrients from raw meats. Not many plants are indigenous to a desert environment.

Mother Nature designed a cat in such a manner that dry, processed and plant foods are not part of the cats' evolutionary diet. Cats' digestive system is not designed to extract needed nutrients from plants but is well designed to extract needed nutrients from meat. Their digestive system is acidic and short - that means that they can efficiently digest meat, bones and even most bacteria.

For that reason, in the desert you might see cats feasting on animals that have been dead for awhile and swarming with flies, maggots and other parasites.

The bones of a cat's prey serve as tooth brushes, the organ meat provide moisture and the prey's stomach content provide the only plant food the cat eats.

Cats prolonged eating of dry foods can cause premature deaths. Dry foods will absorb moisture and since cats have a low thrist drive to begin with, dehydration, a weakened immune system, urinary track problems and diabetes will occur and death will follow.

Why do commercial cat food companies produce such low-grade, non-beneficial and toxic cat foods?

PROFITS - grains are cheaper than meats - then they load up the dry foods with harmful preservatives. All of this spells danger for our domestic cats.

In spite of the claims commercial cat food companies make with respect to their food being wholesome, nutritious, all natural and well-balanced, their claims cannot be supported by science or common sense.

What should you feed your cats?

Never ever feed your cat any dry commercial cat food. Dry food is harmful to your cat. It's best to feed your cat a raw meat diet and avoid feeding your cat carbohydrates.

In most instances, premature cat deaths are diet related. This can be avoided by feeding your cat a species-appropriate diet. A meat-based diet with taurine sprinkled on top is best. Always keep in mind that cats have different dietary requirements than humans. Doing this will keep your feline companion by your side for years to come.
