There is currently a SEO competition going on in an online academy that teaches its students how to make money online.
The contest is split up into 2 divisions. There is a beginner competition and an advanced competition. This is to avoid discouraging the beginners from participating.
The purpose of the contest is to give the academy's students a chance to use their new learned methods in a real life application. Each division has a different term they are trying to rank for.
The beginners are competing for the term Clean Red Widgets while the advanced group is competing for the term Dirty Blue Widgets.
These are both nonsensical terms to avoid outside competition. This allows all the students to compete against each other in stead of the rest of the WWW and thus gives them an equal opportunity to win.
The competition starts Nov. 10, 2008 and runs through Feb. 10, 2009. Whoever is in the highest spot in Google at the end is the winner. There are a few rules to follow.
No black hat or illegal methods are permitted. Buying links is also out. Any domain competing must not have any of the words from the target term in them. And the only automated tools allowed will be those that submit to bookmarking sites and directories.
There are cash prizes for the winners. $1000 to the winner of the beginners and $1500 to the advanced group winner.
