TV and Tiles

The advent of the TV was flanked by the new medium by which various producers have used to peddle their wares. In particular, household problems like grout-cleaning have received special attention. Many products appeared, aiming at housewives who did not want to spend too much time on such a difficult but unspectacular chore.

There have been a lot of changes in the average American home since those times. Advertisements, for example, are now as prevalent in the internet as it is on the television. The housewife archetype, while still a respectable image, is no longer employed as an advertising market. This is probably due to how many among us now choose to work alongside our husbands.

However, the dilemna that is grout cleaning has remained constant throughout these years. if it were only the tiles, which are admittedly trivial to clean, then it wouldn't be too much of a problem. But the grout in between them is composed of material that absorb the dust and muck that it encounters. You will quickly realize that cleaning with one mop simply won't do. Of course, you can't just ignore the grout; after all, they have been known to host bacteria, or even black mold, if left uncleaned.

As one could imagine, grout cleaning thus continues to attract a lot of attention. And because of this, companies continue to release products to help the typical household. If you buy to aim one of these, I advise you to choose carefully.

There are a multitude of grout-cleaning formulae out there, from homemade stuff to the most aggressively marketed and expensive "scientific breakthroughs". If going for these, I suggest going for the simpler ones. They're simply cheaper and can be just as effective. Although be careful; some just plain don't work. Do some research to find out the right formula for you.

Alternatively, you could go for the heavy equipment, which I really advise against. These ones are really expensive, and misusing them may end up destroying your tiles altogether. If you believe that your grout is in need of a heavy-duty machine to clean it, then I suggest going for a professional grout-cleaner instead. They know how to handle the machinery best.
