Watch a Movie Online: Did I Act Like a Jerk?

The other day, a friend of mine sent me an email to see if he could borrow the DVD of the movie "GoodFellas" from me. I emailed him back saying "Just leave me alone. Go download the freaking movie!"

Alright, maybe I wasn't so blunt. But I think he was a little taken aback at first.

What I was trying to get across was that he didn't need to find a DVD. All that you really need for watching a movie is your internet connection.

We've been getting lots of questions lately about the best way to download movies from the internet, and whether it's true that there's a big selection available online.

So, yes. There is a vast selection of movies on the internet. You can easily find GoodFellas, or any other old movie you like. You can also find new releases. Surprisingly, you'll actually find a wider selection on the internet than you would in a video store.

Well, now that we've clarified things, we'll talk about a more important issue ? Where do I download movies on the internet?

First, let us tell you where you SHOULDN'T go to download movies. There are a bunch of "shareware" programs, including Kazaa and Limewire, that can be used to find files online, including music and movies. These work alright for music, but they are awful for movies.

You take a big risk when you download a movie from a site like Kazaa. Since the website isn't monitored, you don't know what file ? or virus ? you might be downloading.

There are a couple of other problems with these kinds of sites ? especially poor selection and slow download speeds.

Movies are large files to download, and these shareware programs often have really slow download speeds. It can take a day or two, and I mean literally, to download just one movie. You probably won't find the movie you want anyway, since these sites have a fairly limited selection when compared with other, and better, options.

The next option is some kind of paid download service. There are many websites that let you download movies by paying for them individually. These "per download" fees usually run about $10 each. By using this service, you'll get your movie via a secure network with a decent download speed.

This is a decent deal, but there's an even better and cheaper method for finding equally high quality movies to download.

With the variety of membership only sites that offer unlimited movie downloads, you can sign up and pay a one-time fee to download as many movies as you like, as often as you want. These fees usually run from about $35 to $45, and give you complete access to a database with a huge selection of movies.

The great thing about a service like this is that you get to download multiple movies for just a one-time fee. The selection is incredible, and you can come back for more any time you want. You'll also be assured that the files are virus free, and download speeds are fast.

The best membership sites will provide you with software for burning your movies to DVD so that you can watch them on TV, and not just on your computer.

So, you want to know ? Did my friend ever find GoodFellas?

Yep. And I can pretty much guarantee that he won't be bothering me for more DVDs any time soon!

Now that so many people download their movies online, don't be surprised if you notice that the number of video stores in your area starts to decline. Go ahead and enjoy downloading moves from the internet. This way, you'll have access to all your favorite movies, right from the comfort of your home. Enjoy!
